3 Months

I cannot believe the girls are 3 months!  Since they "turned" 3 months on October 21st I have found myself crying about the silliest things.  I know I know, I'm crazy!  I'm blaming my emotions on the fact that I'm still recovering from my surgery (also 10-21).  I first cried when I realized I can't hold and squeeze the girls (all four of my incisions are on the front of my stomach).  Then, when I was cleaning out the cupboard I came across their Enfamil Newborn formula (0-3 months) and left it out while I called around to see who could use our (pricey) left-overs.  While it has sat on the counter I have teared up several times while glancing at it--how can my girls already be outgrowing things??  I finally allowed myself to put their newborn clothes into storage.  I'm not ready for my girls to get bigger, I just gave birth to them for goodness sake!  While I attempt to pull myself together here is a trip down memory lane:

Halloween Fun

We have had to do our "Halloween Festivities" a little earlier than we originally planned because my gall bladder surgery is this Friday.  My surgery was originally scheduled for November 8th and that was a horrible date as the girls have tons of doctors appointments and we have lots of other events right around then.  So I'm thrilled they changed it but it also fast-tracked our Halloween activities (pictures, Lombardi Ranch, pumpkins, etc).  Below are some pictures we took for our Halloween cards we mailed out.  The girls were really good sports about the whole thing--no one cried and they let us continually try to shove them both into one pumpkin (clearly this did NOT end up working!).

Tonight we took the girls to Lombardi Ranch to pick out their pumpkins, walk the sunflower field, and look at the animals.  They did really well and only fell asleep at the very end!  We plan on carving their pumpkins for them in a week or two and I'll do a post then.  As a lil tidbit...we picked out their pumpkins tonight based on how WE see the girls...we are weird like that :-)  These are some pictures from our adventure at Lombardi's.

Just Keep Swimming...

Yesterday (since it was over 100*) we took the girls in the pool for the first time!  I think it was pretty successful considering no one cried or went to the bathroom in the pool.  They both didn't seem to mind that it was colder than bath water but they were pretty unhappy when we got out and went in the chilly house.  It was pretty funny trying to get Emma into her swimsuit...it was a bit...ahem...snug shall we say?  We joked because it gave her back fat that looked like cleavage and it also gave her a little cleavage in the front, dad was beside himself!

So You're Telling Me There's No Margaritas??

Yesterday was....eventful.  As if they knew what would be happening at 2PM both girls were cranky ALL day.  So much so that I actually loaded them into the car at 1PM and drove around until their appointment!  We met Alex at the doctors and so began the agreed upon hell that is called vaccinations.  The first hour (yes, hour) was all housekeeping: measuring the girls, temperatures, checking all their limbs, checking out their heads, etc etc.  Of course the girls were angels through all this!  In typical fashion our Lil Livi was given another referral, this time to see the Cranial and Facial Clinic in West Los Angeles.  Her pediatrician wants to have her head looked at as it has some definite flattening to it.  She was also ordered additional blood-testing to make sure her hemangioma is not consuming too much of her blood supply (we will go back another day to do this, I just couldn't put her through that after all the shots).  Other than the usual discussions on Olivia's hemangioma (and of course her noggin), both girls were declared healthy.  The girls were then given all their vaccinations while we had to hold them down.  I wasn't thrilled about this, I had hoped we could hold them but the nurse wanted them on the table.  It broke my heart to hold Olivia down while looking at her little face twist and contort.  I swear she looked at me and telepathically said "What did I do to deserve this?"  Seriously,  after both of their shots I was sweating!! We could hear them in the next room giving some kids popsicles--I was incredulous--how dare they not give the parents something!!  Alex and I joked that we at least deserved margaritas--thankfully the Dr. had a sense of humor and laughed instead of questioning our drinking habits.

2 Month Stats

Emma Rae:  11 lbs 8 oz & 24 inches long & 39 cm head

Olivia Marie:  8 lbs 11 oz & 23 inches long & 39 cm head

Both girls are now regular "smilers" although Olivia would prefer to smile at the ceiling fan instead of mom and dad! They both can hold their head up for short periods of time--I can almost walk with Emma on my hip!  As you can see by their weights, Emma eats like a truck and Olivia eats like a bird.  They prefer to play with each other when we put them on their playmat and I can hear them chit-chatting while I do chores around the house.  If I put Olivia on the playmat by herself she moves and scoots around so much that she is never in the same place when I check on her.  Even though Emma goes through her fussy period every night they are both happy babies and it is exciting to see them smiling and laughing now :-)

First Post!

I've decided to continue our blogging on this new forum as it seemed we were outgrowing our one through TheBump.com!  I will be keeping www.mcewansplus2.ourbabychannel.com for a bit longer to allow those that still check it to get our "new address" here at BlogSpot.  I hope to transfer over most of the information from our old blog and then to do a real first post on Thursday after the girls' 2 month check-up, so check back!
